First Android-Based Phone

T-Mobile USA is going to hold a press event next week at which the first smartphone running Google's Android operating system will be announced. The invitation to this event -- which will be held on September 23 -- specifically says that this wireless carrier will be unveiling an Android-based phone. However, the invite doesn't promise that this product will be released next week. Unconfirmed reports say this won't happen until mid-October. Not surprisingly, T-Mobile didn't reveal any details on the device it's going to announce next week, but quite a bit of information on this model -- reportedly called the HTC Dream -- has already leaked out. The most recent of these leaks is the price: $200 with a two-year contract. It will supposedly be $400 without a subsidy.
