Fan-less tablet PCs

Nexcom, has launched three fan-less tablet computers designed for specific vertical sectors. The new MTC 2100, MTC 2100-MD and MRC 2100 devices are all based on Intel's low-power Atom processor, and boast a claimed eight hours of battery life with uninterrupted usage. For workers that spend as much time out of the office as in it, the devices feature Bluetooth 2.0 and a touch screen that the firm promises is readable in sunlight. Also included are TPM encryption and fingerprint security. Each tablet is designed with an industry sector in mind. The MTC 2100 is for use on logistics and inventory management, and has a built-in barcode reader that combines with a GPS mobile to provide up to date information. The MTC 2100-MD is pitched at the healthcare industry, and uses RFID to improve patient information management. The final release, the MRC 2100, is a more ruggedised model, and can withstand vertical drops of up to 4ft. It is designed to be mounted onto trade vehicles such as forklift trucks. The three tablet PCs were unveiled earlier this year, but today marks their availability in the UK. Motion Computing has also enhanced its tablet PC range this week, adding a smartcard reader and better USB/Ethernet connection modules to the F5 Mobile Field Tool and C5 Mobile Clinical Assistant. The smartcard reader will let firms improve their security procedures, Motion said, and would make it easier to authenticate users and simplify the securing of critical data. With the implementation of its EasyConnect USB/Ethernet Module, Motion said that it had made it easier for mobile workers to connect to other devices and local area networks without sacrificing the security of their device.
